- Length: 16 – 32 feet
- Weight: 3 – 11 tons
- Alaska Resident Population: 2,084
- Status: Protected under the MMPA
- Description: Medium sized black whale with white undersides. Distinctive white patch above and behind the eye, and a highly variable gray or white saddle behind the dorsal fin. Large, rounded pectoral fins. Widely distributed and highly social, living primarily in stable social groups of 2 to 15 animals.
